Abstract:
Vachadighrita[VG] is a known formulation having action on CNS. Ingredients of VG are paste of Vacha [Acorus calamus], Guduchi [Tinospora cordifolia], Shati [Hedychium spicatum], Shankhapushpi [Convolvulus pluricaulis], Haritaki [Terminalia chebula], Vidang [Embelia ribes], Shunthi [Zingiber officinale], Apamarg [Achyranthes aspera], cow ghee and water. This study is based on innovation in manufacturing process in comparison with traditional guidelines. SOP for manufacture of medicated ghee was followed throughout the processandVG was prepared by heating ghee, herbal drug paste and water together.Three samples of VG were prepared by 3 different ways, i.e. VG1using fine powder, VG2 with coarse powder and VG3with mixture of fine and coarse powder of herbal drugs.Fourth batch [VG4]was prepared by using paste of fine powder and addition of sodium bicarbonate. The use of sodium bicarbonate was experimented as an innovation. The final weight was maximum i.e. 92 % in VG4, 80 % in VG2 and 70 % inVG3. It was minimum i.e. 50% in VG1. Maximum bitterness and strong odour was found inVG4 sample with least % weight loss. Hence it is evident that the innovation of addition of sodium bicarbonate and use of fine pasteproduced medicated ghee of best strength. Further VG4 was analyzed with API parameters. Thus study established the innovatory manufacture process and analytical values of Vachadighrita.
